{"id":11530,"date":"2019-03-20T15:33:34","date_gmt":"2019-03-20T19:33:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rsfintranet.org\/?p=11530"},"modified":"2019-03-20T15:33:35","modified_gmt":"2019-03-20T19:33:35","slug":"seminar-wednesday-mar-27-tonya-brito","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rsfintranet.org\/?p=11530","title":{"rendered":"Seminar, Wednesday, Mar 27: Tonya Brito"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dear RSF:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please join us on Wednesday, March 27, at 11:00 in the\nlibrary for a presentation by Tonya Brito entitled \u201cAccess\nto Justice in Family Court.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brito is the Jefferson Burrus-Bascom Professor of Law at the\nUniversity of Wisconsin Law School and a Faculty Affiliate with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.irp.wisc.edu\/index.htm\">Institute for Research on Poverty<\/a>&nbsp;(IRP)\nat the University of Wisconsin. &nbsp;She served as Associate Dean for Research\nand Faculty Development from 2014-2016 and as Director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/law.wisc.edu\/ils\/\">Institute for Legal Studies<\/a> from\n2013-2016. &nbsp; Brito&#8217;s work critically examines the intersection of family\nlaw and poverty law, focusing on how the welfare state regulates the family\nrelationships of the poor. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brito&#8217;s publications in this area include \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2371402\">What We Talk\nAbout When We Talk About Matriarchy<\/a>\u201d (<em>Michigan State Law Review<\/em>,\n2013)<em>,&nbsp;<\/em>which examines and compares the legal treatment and gender\ndynamics of both poor and middle-class families experiencing financial hardship\nin economic downturns, and&nbsp;\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2338159\">Fathers\nBehind Bars: &nbsp;Rethinking Child Support Policy Towards Low-Income\nNoncustodial Fathers and their Families<\/a>\u201d (<em>Iowa Journal of Gender,\nRace &amp;
