Please join us in the library at 11:00 on Wednesday,\nFebruary 19, for Visiting Scholar Shinobu Kitayama\u2019s presentation, \u201cHow Culture Shapes\nthe Mind: Brain Plasticity and the Diversity of Mentality<\/em>.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n Kitayama received his Ph.D. in Psychology from the\nUniversity of Michigan, and his B.A. and M.A. from Kyoto University in\nJapan. He is the Robert B. Zajonc Collegiate Professor of Psychology and\nDirector of the Culture and Cognition Program at the University of Michigan,\nwhere he has been since 2003. The second edition of his Handbook of\nCultural Psychology<\/em> was released in 2018. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Currently, Kitayama is using his\nthree decades of empirical research in cultural psychology and neuroscience to\ndevelop a monograph arguing that the human mind is shaped and transformed by\nsocial and cultural contexts, rather than biology. He is exploring how\ndifferent socio-cultural environments influence the relationship between\npeoples\u2019 subjective, psychological health and their objective, biological\nhealth.
