{"id":13091,"date":"2020-02-27T10:54:28","date_gmt":"2020-02-27T15:54:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rsfintranet.org\/?p=13091"},"modified":"2020-02-27T10:54:28","modified_gmt":"2020-02-27T15:54:28","slug":"visiting-scholar-seminar-mar-4-marisa-chappell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rsfintranet.org\/?p=13091","title":{"rendered":"Visiting Scholar Seminar, Mar 4: Marisa Chappell"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dear RSF:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please join us in the library at 11:00 on Wednesday March 4\nfor Visiting Scholar Marisa Chappell\u2019s presentation \u201c<em>ACORN: Working-Class\nPolitics in America\u2019s Second Gilded Age.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Chappell received both her PhD in US History and MA in\nLiberal Studies from Northwestern, and a BA in History from Emory\nUniversity.&nbsp; She is Associate Professor of History at Oregon State\nUniversity, <\/em>specializing in 20th-century US history with a\nparticular focus on politics, social policy, and the political economy of race\nand gender.&nbsp; She has been at Oregon State <em>since 2005.&nbsp; Chappell is the\nauthor of <\/em><em>The\nWar on Welfare: Family, Poverty and Politics in Modern America<\/em><em> (University of\nPennsylvania Press, 2009), one of <\/em><em>Choice<\/em><em> magazine\u2019s Outstanding Academic Titles for 2010.&nbsp;\n&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chappell is working on a book\nthat explores how the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now\n(ACORN), once the nation\u2019s largest social justice organization, organized low-\nand moderate-income Americans to win political power locally and nationally.
