Please join us Wednesday, February 8th at 11 for Visiting Scholar Elizabeth Ananat’s presentation, “ESSENTIAL: How the US has Failed its Most Vital Workforce and How Making it Right Can Help Us All .”
Ananat is Professor and Mallya Chair of Women and Economics at Barnard College, Columbia University, where she has been since 2020. Previous appointments were at Duke and Northwestern. She holds a Ph.D. from MIT in Economics, a MPA from the University of Michigan, and a BA in Political Economics and Mathematics from Williams College. In 2010 she served as Senior Economist for Labor, Education, and Welfare at the White House Council of Economic Advisers. Ananat’s research focuses on the intergenerational dynamics of poverty and inequality.
At the Foundation she is working on a project which analyzes survey data from over 1,000 low-wage service workers with young children to understand their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. She is exploring job and income changes, material hardships, and support from established and pandemic-specific government programs.
