Instead, we will have a Thursday webinar at 1:00 PM on 9\/21, presented by Guest Speaker Zachary Parolin from Columbia University\u2019s Center on Poverty &amp; Social Policy. If you&#8217;d like to attend the webinar, please register using the link below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/columbiauniversity.zoom.us\/webinar\/register\/WN_RTw6ko_FRkiLpbsgcjyhIQ#\/registration\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/columbiauniversity.zoom.us\/webinar\/register\/WN_RTw6ko_FRkiLpbsgcjyhIQ#\/registration<\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parolin will be discussing his new book, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.russellsage.org\/publications\/poverty-pandemic\">Poverty in the Pandemic: Policy Lessons from COVID-19<\/a><\/em><em> <\/em>(RSF, 2023)<em>. <\/em>The book explores three perspectives on poverty\u2014poverty as a risk factor, poverty as an expression of access to current resources, and poverty as a stratifying factor\u2014and how they affected people during the COVID-19 pandemic. He advocates for policy approaches that will both prepare us for the next large-scale economic disruption and provide timely assistance when upheaval occurs, and makes the case for more frequent, and more nuanced poverty measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parolin earned his PhD in Socio-Economics from the University of Antwerp in Belgium. He currently holds dual appointments as Assistant Professor of Social Policy, Bocconi University (Italy) and Senior Research Fellow at Columbia University&#8217;s Center on Poverty &amp; Social Policy. His research focuses on the measurement and determinants of poverty and social inequality in high-income countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Thursday&#8217;s webinar is at 1:00 PM, you may wish to eat lunch in your office if you&#8217;re joining from RSF.
