Please join us Wednesday, March 11 at 11 in the library and on Zoom for a presentation by Visiting Scholar Michael Campbell, “Crime, decarceration, and criminal justice reform: implications from six states.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Campbell is Professor of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Denver, where he has been since 2018. Previous appointments included the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Northern Illinois University.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Campbell holds a PhD in Criminology, Law & Society from the University of California, Irvine and a BA and MA in History from Indiana University-Bloomington. His research employs mixed research methods to examine the social, historical and political forces that shape law and policy, especially those associated with mass incarceration. Much of this work has focused on the forces shaping state-level developments that shape penal trajectories, including partisanship, crime and economic conditions. Campbell has been published in the\u00a0American Journal of Sociology<\/em>,\u00a0Law and Society<\/em>\u00a0Review<\/em>,\u00a0Criminology, Punishment and Society\u00a0<\/em>and other sociological and criminological journals. Campbell’s “The Transformation of America’s Penal Order” (with Heather Schoenfeld)\u00a0American Journal of Sociology\u00a0<\/em>118 (5) March 1375-1423 won the ASA Sociology of Law Distinguished Article Prize (2014) and the Law & Society Association Article Honorable Mention (2014).\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
