Visiting Scholar Announcement, 11/1 – Jennifer Jennings, Princeton University

Dear Staff and Scholars,

Please join me in welcoming Jennifer Jennings for her seminar entitled, “Leveling the Playing Field for School Choice in New York City.” The talk will be at 11 AM this Wednesday, November 1st in the Library.

Jennifer Jennings is a Professor of Sociology and Public Affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University. During her time at RSF, she will examine the barriers to access to high-quality high schools for low-income students. Using a decade of administrative data from the New York City Department of Education, she will analyze how students’ school choices and placements are influenced by their families, their proximity to good schools, and schools’ admissions policies. She will also explore the extent to which providing low-income families with resources such as fact sheets on high-performing schools can increase their placement at those schools.

I hope everyone is looking forward as I am to an interesting and productive discussion.

Best regards,

Eric Bias
