Dear RSF:
Please join us next Wednesday, October 27, at 11:00 for a presentation by Guest Speaker Elizabeth Ananat from Barnard College, “The Experiences of Low-Wage Service Workers with Young Children Before and During the COVID-19 Pandemic.”
Ananat received her Ph.D. from MIT in Economics in 2006. Since 2020, she has been the Mallya Professor of Women and Economics at Barnard College, Columbia University. She is a 2021 Andrew Carnegie Fellow and served as Senior Economist for Labor, Education and Welfare at the White House Council of Economic Advisers during the Obama Administration (2010). Her primary research focus is on the intergenerational dynamics of poverty and inequality. Ananat’s project for Carnegie, “Remaking Labor and Family Policy for the Post-COVID Era: Leveraging the Pandemic’s Disruption of the Care Economy,” documents the challenges facing vulnerable families during COVID, and identifies better policies to both support them and bring about a stronger, more just society post-pandemic.
