Visiting Scholar Seminar, January 10: Xi Song

Song is Associate Professor of Sociology and Demography at the University of Pennsylvania where she has been since 2019. Prior to the University of Pennsylvania, she held an appointment at the University of Chicago (2015-19). Song has both a PhD in Sociology and an MS in Statistics from UCLA, as well as a BA in Sociology from Remin University (China) and an M. Phil. in Social Science from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Among other honors, she was the 2021 recipient of the American Sociology Association’s William Julius Wilson Early Career award.

Her current project investigates discrimination against Asian Americans in the labor market. Song is analyzing linked longitudinal data from Longitudinal Employer Household Dynamics, the American Community Survey, the Census, and the National Survey of College Graduates and comparing earning trajectories among Asian American subgroups and Whites, Blacks, and Hispanics.
