Please join us next Wednesday, October 8th at 11 in the library and on Zoom for a presentation by Visiting Scholar Francesc Ortega entitled “How to manage flood risk equitably?”
Ortega is the Dina Axelrad Perry Professor in Economics at Queens College, City University of New York, where he has been appointed since 2012. He holds a PhD in Economics from New York University, and a BA and MA in Economics from the Universitat de Barcelona.
His research has been featured in Econofact, PBS, The Hill, The Washington Post and the BBC. He is currently the Associate Editor of SERIEs-Journal of the Spanish Economic Association. Ortega is a Research Fellow of IZA (Institute for the Study of Labor and CReAM (Center for Research and Analysis of Migration.
At RSF Ortega is examining how recent reforms to the National Flood Insurance Program have impacted disadvantaged communities in flood-prone areas. He is also analyzing administrative data on flood insurance policies and the American Community Survey to evaluate additional reforms, such as extending insurance mandates.
