Guest Seminar Friday Sept. 25

Please note that our next seminar will be on Friday, September 25, at 11:00, with Kathy Edin of Johns Hopkins University and H. Luke Shaefer of the University of Michigan.  Their topic will be $2.00 a Day: Living on Almost Nothing in America.” Their book of the same title was recently reviewed in the Sunday New York Times by William Julius Wilson.

Kathy Edin is a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor at Johns Hopkins. She received her Ph.D. in sociology from Northwestern University in 1991 and has taught at Rutgers University, Northwestern University, the University of Pennsylvania, and, most recently, Harvard University as a Professor of Public Policy and Management at the Kennedy School and chair of the Multidisciplinary Program in Inequality and Social Policy. She is a former RSF Visiting Scholar and, since 2013, an RSF Trustee.

Luke Shaefer is Associate Professor of Social Work and Associate Professor of Public Policy at the University of Michigan School of Social Work. He received his Ph.D. in Social Service Administration from the University of Illinois, Chicago in 2008.
